Study for new R&I cover

I've been wrestling with compositions for the cover of the upcoming European release of Rose and Isabel. Here's an in progress version that I'm starting to like, inspired by Mignola and Stewart's cover work on BPRD. Comments and suggestions welcome.

Ted,

Not sure whether this cover captures the proper context of the story. Even though the missing brothers were the driving factors for R&I to become soldiers and fight in the war, the main focus is still R&I. For this reason, I like to 2 covers for the American version as it focuses on Rose and Isabel as civilians in 1st cover and the progression as soldiers in the 2nd cover. Personally, it would be more intriguing if you added motifs of prologue to the cover as R&I is really story of folklore tale of women warriors, madness (Rose) and pathos (Isabel).

I really like the colour and overall design of this cover. I think the heads in the background are dominating the composition though. If you make Rose and Isabel bigger, I think this would return the focus to your two main characters. You may have to shift the portrait of the parents so that it isn't too obscured by the bigger foreground characters.

I guess the other option is shrink the heads on either side, but this may throw the balance of the composition out of whack.

I still think it's a striking image. It would definitely grab my eye and want to pull the book of the shelf for a looksie.

Good thing I have the english books. This will be the first french book that I buy that I will actually understand.
